Dome Builder Prepares for Hurricane Season

While most Americans are focused on the devastating tornadoes that have been ransacking the nation, those who live in coastal areas have another type of natural disaster on their minds. Hurricane season began on June 1, and meteorologists are predicting that it could be a much more active than last year.

One South Texas family is getting prepared by building a new Monolithic Dome home. The Smith family began construction three months ago, and is confident that once complete, the structure will be able to withstand Mother Nature’s fury.

“It’s extreme in that it will be able to withstand the forces that nature can put out,” David Smith told KCEN News, adding that he and his family personally witnessed the devastation of Hurricane Rita. “If another one were to come through here – this could withstand 400 mph winds."
