Fresh Air and ERVs

Energy Recovery Unit — This RecoupAerator ERV was installed in a window at Charca Casa, the Monolithic Dome home of Judy and David South, and monitored closely. It proved very efficient. The Souths’ home is now always under 1200 ppm — even with lots of company.

Inside the ERV — It houses two fans. One pulls air from inside the house to the outside, and the other pulls fresh air from the outside into the inside. A temperature exchange takes place in the cube on the right.

Inside the house — This photo was taken during the Research/Development stages. The vents are more separated now. Even with such a close intake and output, this is a very effective way of freshening the air.
