Public invited to Monolithic Dome Institute for 2017 open house

The public is invited to the complex of the Monolithic Dome Institute on Saturday, October 14th, 2017 for an open house. The Institute is located at 177 Dome Park Place, Italy, Texas 76651, and the event will last from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. CDT. This annual event is aimed at celebrating and educating about Monolithic Domes and is free for all who wish to attend.

New to the event this year are door prizes. Everyone who attends will be entered and winners will be announced throughout the event.

Many of the buildings and features at the Institute complex will be open for viewing. Among those will be a popular landmark, Bruco the caterpillar. Visitors will be able to see inside the caterpillar’s 14,000 square feet of space where Airforms are manufactured. Other buildings that will be open include the office and training center.

Several of the houses on the complex will also be open for tours. These include Charca Casa, Callisto, and Io-20, a small dome home. There will also be several of the experimental designs and buildings on display.

Many professionals with knowledge of Monolithic Domes will be on hand to answer questions from the public. These include employees of the Monolithic Dome Institute, who have many years of experience designing and building these structures. Additionally, dome designer Linda Ware will be attendance. She will be available to discuss questions regarding specific design criteria and ideas with interested parties.

On that day two additional sites will be open for tours. Arcadia, a Monolithic Dome home in Utah will also be available for tours. The home is located at 115 Canyon Road, Providence, Utah 84332. The home will be available to tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. MST. This home was completed in the fall of last year. For directions to the home, see the listing from last year’s open house.

The other site will be the Shalom Dome, a dome home in Missouri. The home is still under construction, but at 90% completed the homeowners are willing to show their home and answer any questions. Visitors can visit the home from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. CDT at 14940 NW 136th St, Platte City, MO 64079.
